Your First Step: Loan Pre-Qualification

Most experts agree that the critical first step to any purchase is to get pre-qualified with an experienced mortgage specialist. This can be done over the phone or email and takes very little time. I cannot stress enough how important using the right individual is for this process. My contacts are all 100% dedicated to doing mortgage business and this is all they do day-in and day-out.  The Next Step: Defining Your Needs

Once you have your mortgage pre-qualification in place it is time for me to find you the right home! Your next step is to ask yourself why you want to buy a home...To stop paying rent? Start building equity? Have a place of your own? Raise a family? Entertain business associates? Moving up to a bigger house?

Next, list what kind of home you'd like and where you would like to be. Be specific. Separate the "must haves" from the "want to haves." Think of yourself as zeroing in on a target, going from the general to the specific. Considerations can include:

  • Community/neighborhood (older and settled or sparkling new)
  • Schools
  • Recreational facilities
  • Community services such as transportation, day care, library, stores, entertainment, etc.
  • Home type/style
  • Size and space needed
  • Number of bedrooms
  • Garage type (attached or detached? Single/double/triple?)
  • Basement development 
  • Age of home
  • Physical location of home (Remember in real estate it is location, location, location!!!)
